De zomer van 1957 verloopt moeizaam voor ex-autocoureur Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver): zijn autobedrijf gaat failliet, het huwelijk met zijn vrouw Laura (Penélope Cruz) gaat niet over een leien dakje en tot overmaat van ramp overlijdt hun zoon Dino.
